The importance of lighting:
The photos used for a magazine or website are incredibly important. It's great to have contrasting lighting such as the main image on the Queens Gambit having a very dark background with the left corners being shrouded in darkness, not only does this create a very harsh and intimidating background but allows the eyes to easily see the white title. If the background was any other colour it would be an eyesore. However on the over side, there is a bright light on the main actresses face. One side is harsh darkness and the other soft light. The lighting can also present the atmosphere of what's being presented. Soft light or daylight can be seen as more friendly as everything can be seen and it is the time when everyone is awake and active. While in darkness or night time it could be implying that something maybe be hiding as many people possess fears of the darkness and what could be lurking inside it.
