03 creating media: magazine cover

 

I am going to create a magazine cover about the Smiler and Oblivion roller coaster located at Alton Towers resort in the UK.

* Both Oblivion and the smiler are connected as both have a similar theme of a secret government facility that experiments on the body and mind.

* Both roller coasters are hugely significant as one was a world's first and the other a world record breaker.

* Both of the rides themes were made to appeal to a teenage demographic with edgy themes and darker imagery as it was shown in a documentary about one of the rides developments.

* The smiler features a large mechanical structure called the Marmaliser which is built to look like a spider. This could fit well spread across a double page or for the front cover.

* Oblivion features a soundtrack that is drum and base which is a popular genre among teenagers which I could talk about.

* Both coasters feature large fanbases which I could use to help bring in some more opinions on both of them.

* Oblivion and the smiler are both very famous British roller coasters known throughout the globe from uk enthusiasts to american enthusiasts, so it would easily get attention.

*The two rides have very similar colour schemes comprising of white, black and one bold colour, in this case orange and yellow, making it easy for me to combine the two main colours onto the page.

* The two rides both have a long, lengthy development history, meaning there is more to discuss in the magazine.

 Magazine idea
If I could write a magazine, I would write about roller coasters, specifically the Smiler at Alton towers as this ride has by far  has one of the most interesting themes I've ever seen, a long with the structures surrounding the ride itself. The ride has a pretty interesting history such as the strange marketing, the 14 inversions or the confusing layout. the smiler has a large fanbase from UK enthusiasts to American enthusiasts and is one of the most unique and famous roller coasters in the world, whether for better or for worse...

Television opening

For the television opening I would probably create a comedy as most of the TV shows I watch are comedies whether live action of animation. Comedies are my favourite kind of TV genre so it would fit well.

Music video

I'm not really sure as I don't really listen to music, I mostly listen to video game soundtracks

video campaign

I would create a campaign for the environment as it's important to save the environment as we need to protect it because it could seriously affect the future generation (the people watching the campaign).
